Waiting for spring

During the winter months I seem to get anxious about not being able to spend time in the garden.  Without gardening the days can seem long and gloomy.  But I have found a way to satisfy my need for garden blooms even if I can't have the real thing: bring home some hand-embroidered pieces from antique shops that artfully depict fresh and bright flowers.

I have found enough of these pieces to know that most of the time there is a slight yellowing in the fabric, due to age.  Nothing that a gentle cleaning won't take care of!  I recommend soaking the item in a dilution of Oxiclean for an hour or so.  Then rinse well.  If ironing is needed, reverse the item and cover with a white cloth before applying heat.

Now that your little piece of embroidered flowers is ready to be displayed, you can frame it to hang on the wall, or you can make a pillow out of it to spruce up your sofa or bed.

Here are three delicately hand-embroidered pieces I found recently and turned into pillows.  A cheerful little garden on my bed!

You can use a regular zipper, an invisible zipper, or even buttons to secure your pillow.

Thankfully, pillows don’t have to be perfect in order to be enjoyed.  ;)

    Happy spring!
