One of the pleasures of sewing is being able to make tiny dresses for dolls-- be they daughters, grand daughters, or actual dolls. I have been making doll dresses ever since I can remember. As I get older, the fabrics I use tend to get fancier and more expensive, and the buttons tend to be finds from antique stores or garage sales. Though the patterns are always my own, they also tend to get a little more elaborate as I age.
This particular dress was made for an 21" doll, although it is displayed on my 18" American Doll Molly. The fabric is 100% Tilda cotton, imported from London. Although this fabric is quite expensive for a cotton, it is exquisite! You cannot find it in the US; therefore I granted myself the luxury of importing it for this doll. (Lucky doll, I hope she feels gorgeous!) :)

I made the dress to have a front and back yoke. The front is smocked using double 100% cotton DMC thread. The collar, sleeve cuffs, and little underwear are made of ecru imperial batiste (Spechler-Vogel). The collar is adorned with modest hand embroidery.
I have to tell you-- I had so much fun working with Tilda cotton!
