Christmas is a very special time of the year, not only for Christians, but for many others as well. I wish you all, from the bottom of my heart, happiness and well being at this time of the year and all through the new year. May all of your worthwhile wishes come true.
We celebrate Christmas in our home by giving gifts and serving our family members, friends, and neighbors. At least, we try to, and I can honestly say that the effort brings us peace and joy.
Gift giving may come in many forms …and prices. When I was a little girl there were 5 of us children, plus Mom and Dad. The Christmas gifts were not so many, and mostly homemade and humbly wrapped.
The Christmas tree was the real innovation in our home because my mother was not willing to travel 30 miles away and spend money on a pine tree (which was an import in Mexico). Instead she’d get a good size woody bush, let it dry, remove all the leaves and then paint the whole thing silver. We decorated our silver bush with bright colored glass ornaments, and it looked fantastic! Once the tree was up there was a much improved feeling among us children. Looking back, I think Mom was somewhat contemporary.
Nowadays things have changed quite a bit. Most presents come from the store and they are beautifully wrapped. Please don’t get me wrong, that is beautiful as well! But in my heart I still like Christmas presents that are either homemade, aged, or have a story to tell.
I don’t want this blog to sound like an advertisement, but I do want to share some of the little Christmas gifts I’ve made in the past that are cute, inexpensive, and sure to bring a smile to the recipient. Most of them I found on Etsy, one of my favorite places to shop for one of a kind items. These Christmas gifts (or Christmas projects) are easy to make. And if you can watch a show or two while you knit, then it will be a lot more enjoyable.
