A couple of years ago, I fell in love with a boys' design that was presented in Sew Beautiful magazine (Aug/Sept 2013). The design was from a pattern called “Creations by Michie #139” which has been out of print for a while.
I finally put myself to the task of re-creating this lovely pattern for myself, and I can happily say that I obtained something very similar. I don’t intend to compare myself with Miss Michie Mooney, whose work I admire very much, but I desperately needed to have that set. Now I have the next best thing.
Here are some variations. I've experimented and found that the set can successfully be made with gingham and oxford cotton, or with cotton windowpane and pique.
Really, any other variation you choose could probably work, as long as the fabrics complement each other. Embellish the pocket with any design you want. And definitely feel free to use baby piping and elastic for a younger client.
Happy sewing, and don’t forget to celebrate Father’s Day!
